Fire Up the Dyson and Buy Drain-O

I’m shedding like a golden retriever! No offense, Miles. Following my showers over the past week or so, I’ve been collecting two hand-fulls of hair from the shower floor. Thank goodness I have enough to spare...for now, anyway!

This hair evacuation-thing qualifies as one of those pregnancy/postpartum things they don’t tell you. So, well, now you’ve been told.

Perspective photo.
As you can see, in the grand scheme of things, a little hair loss is really not that a big deal.

Update: 2 weeks later and I'm down to only one hand-full of hair collected post-shower. I'm not sure how much longer I can sustain the 'great hair evacuation' without going bald! Does this photo gross you out? Sorry about that. I had to document it because it just baffles me every time.

My First Day Back in Real Pants!

I haven't bothered with my non-maternity clothes until today. The thought of struggling to get into my old pants, or the though of them not fitting at all, was too much to bear. But I turned a corner. Was it curiosity? Maybe. Was it frustration of continuously hiking-up my maternity pants (why don't those things stay up around your waist)? Probably. In any event, I mustered up the courage to try on my old jeans...and they fit! No problems! I've been dreaming of this day since I had to slip on that annoying, albeit necessary, elastic waistband last summer!

Oh, beautiful denim, how I love you and your non-forgiving waistband!
(Bye-bye to rubber bands too!)

Who Does She Look Like?

We get this question often and we think she's a good mix of both of us. Once we dug up our baby pictures, though, it became a lot clearer.  Here we are at 2-3 months...do I even need to clarify who is who? Hint: the baby who's got enough hair on her hair to braid – yeah, that one is me.

Chelsea Rocks!

We recently discovered some songs about Chelsea. Have a listen to my top 2 Chelsea tracks below.

Chelsea Rodgers by Prince, Album: Planet Earth, 2007

There are a few really cool things about this Prince song: 1. It's Prince. He's awesome. 2. It is a super funkadelic track. I dare you not to dance...it's just not possible. 3. For a Prince tune, the lyrics aren't totally inappropriate so we'll be able to sing it to our Chelsea even as she begins to understand what we are saying – if this song was on Prince's (awesome but raunchy) Diamonds & Pearls album, we'd probably have a problem.

Chelsea by The Summer Set, Album: Love Like This, 2009

This is just a fun, sunshine-y alt pop song. Warning: this is another Elmer's to the brain tune...I can't get it unstuck!

To close out, here's one of my favorite pics of Chelsea from a few weeks ago. In keeping with the music theme of this blog post, her onesie says "Never too small to rock."

(Clearly, her parents are gen-x ers.)

Chelsea in Action: 7 Weeks

Here's a short clip of Chelsea in action. At 7 weeks old, she's sharing smiles (grinning isn't reserved for just gas anymore), contributing to the conversation and likes to show off her kickboxing skills by punching her Hungry Caterpillar. She's got a strong left jab.

Yes, those are rhinos on her onesie.

See the Elephant?

I've adopted that sing-songy kid voice, which is an inevitability when living the vida loca of full-time new mommy. Lucky for me, Chelsea is very alert so at least it appears as if she is interested in all of the garbley gook I'm singing at her all day long.

When she focuses in on an object I say "see the ....?" Despite my sleep deprivation, I've noticed a pattern: I say "see the elephant?" about 50 times a day—and it's not the same elephant! There are elephants all over our house (giraffes follow at a close second)!

Elephants are really awesome creatures, so I'm fine with the repetition in decor but I wonder if this is misleading. Will Chelsea think elephants are indigenous to the greater Boston area? Will she be disappointed when she finds out they aren't? Will she be upset that we didn't prepare her to learn about animals that she would actually see in the neighborhood? Maybe I should have bought that mobile with the squirrels on it instead.

Chelsea looking at yet another elephant!
