Don't Fetch!

Here's a shout-out to our very good – and somewhat newly neglected – dog. He's been a great companion since Chelsea came home from the hospital; always at my feet and ready for a scratch behind the ear but never demanding.

If you know Miles, you know he's crazy about retrieving balls – after all, it's just plain instinct for the fuzzy guy. The ball in the photo below is called the O-Ball, it is a great infant toy that Chelsea seems to like . . . and so does Miles. Every time we bring it out for Chelsea I wonder how long the O-Ball can maintain its baby-toy status until having to surrender it to dog-toy status.

This morning, I watched closely as Miles cuddled up to Chelsea while she was playing with her O-Ball in her Bumbo seat. Miles' ears perked up as Chelsea flung the ball to the ground. I calmly told him, "That's not yours," he sighed and rested his head back on the ground. Looks like we'll be able to keep the O-Ball in the baby toy box for awhile longer. Good boy, Miles!

Who told Miles?

We certainly didn't have to, he totally knows! That just kind of blows my mind. He is sticking to me like glue lately.

Get your Crampon

Leaving our snowshoes and crampons at home turned a pretty easy hike into a very difficult (and perilous) walk through the woods. We immediately discovered our trail through the White Mountains to be a thick sheet of ice but that didn't stop us...hey, we'll get a good workout if nothing else (read: we'll sweat it out as we flounder around this hill)!

It was all fun and games until Andy turned around and said "Uh...Miles just slipped off a cliff." (!) We carefully scooted ourselves over to the edge and saw Miles about 12 feet below us, thankfully unscathed but crying because he couldn't scale back up the icy rock face that separated us. We eventually got to him and ended our hike short, grateful with the outcome of a very scary situation. Phew.

Salty Dog

We know that Miles loves to swim, but he hasn't been in the ocean before this weekend. At first the waves scared him but it didn't take long before he was riding the waves and begging for another toss of his tennis ball.

Miles to go before I sleep

I know...I know...I've been slacking on the blog but having a puppy has got us really busy and sleep deprived! Miles is a totally cute fast learner with tons of fluffy goodness. It's a lot of work but he's worth it! Click here for photos of the last couple of weeks.

Introducing: Miles!

Here's the "pupdate": We made our decision, it was not easy - as all of the pups were exceedingly adorable - but our little pup stood out (and happened to deliver the most kisses) so we gave him the special red collar (that means he's ours). Only 7 more days until we take him home... View week 6 photos here.

Furballs of Love

We are head over heels about our future puppy and the litter he was born into. It's obsessive, really. When we visit them, we fill up our camera's memory card with images and videos...and on weekends we can't visit the litter, we make the breeder send us photos. They're irresistible. Check out photos and videos of our visits to the breeder's below - they grow up so fast!
